The Name of the Company is The Refugee Information Service Limited

 

The company was incorporated on the 10th of February 2000 with the Companies Registration Office under the number 320335. 

The RIS is a Company Limited by Guarantee and Not Having a Share Capital.

The company is a registered charity under the reference CHY 13800

The Objects Clause of the Company as laid out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association is:

"The main object for which the Company is established is to provide an information service without discrimination for the refugee and asylum seeking Community in Ireland, and to counter social exclusion and poverty caused by enforced migration, famine, political unrest, persecution, imprisonment and other social and economic circumstances. (The "refugee and asylum seeking Community" refers to programme refugees, convention refugees, those given 'leave to remain' and those who have applied for refugee status [i.e. asylum seekers] and will hereinafter be referred to as "the Community".)"

The subsidiary objects of the Company are:

(i) to act as a resource to the Community;

(ii) to enhance the capacity of the Community particularly in areas of economic marginalisation to participate fully in society and to counter social exclusion;
    
(iii) to provide an information service without discrimination on the grounds of age, sex, colour, creed, disability, political views, race, sexual orientation or social status,

(iv) to promote awareness of issues of racism where appropriate through the work of the company;

(v) to provide initial and ongoing training for voluntary and paid staff in the delivery of an information service;

(vi) to provide information from a central premises and on an 'outreach' basis; 

(vii) to co-operate with statutory and voluntary bodies and agencies in achieving its objectives;

(viii) to promote inclusiveness by engaging members from the target Community at all levels of the company;

(ix) by the work of the company to inform social policy;

(x) to respond to the emerging information needs of the Community by establishing initiatives.

(xi) to ensure that all monies received by the Company will be used to promote the purpose of the Company;

(xviii) to undertake additional initiatives or activities which the Company feel will progress the successful completion of the stated purpose of the Company;

(xvix) to seek funding for the activities of the Company through sponsorship, donations, subscriptions and grants from local, central and European government agencies.
