Integration- Access to Education
One of the key barriers to integration that was identified by the RIS through client feedback was Access to Education, it has become clear that there are real issues for our clients relating to Access to Education that still need to be addressed.
In October 2007, the RIS hosted an Education Workshop in Dublin. The purpose of the workshop was to identify research that is potentially required in the area of education as it pertains to refugees and people who have been granted leave to remain in Ireland.
Participants at the workshop included those who had experience themselves in relation to the barriers to accessing education, researchers, education and training providers, representatives of State and non-State organizations involved in Education as well as other experts who have conducted research or otherwise have experience in the areas of education.
The RIS wishes to see a situation where the vital role of education within the integration project is clearly recognised. In order to do this, RIS envisages developing inter agency co-operation to ensure that specific needs of our clients are addressed.
