Family Reunification

FR

The RIS believes that there is a need for greater acceptance and a broadening of the interpretation of the rights to family reunification and a commitment on the part of the authorities to see these rights fully recognised. The RIS also wishes to see a situation where the vital role of family reunification within the refugee integration process is recognised.

In November 2007, the RIS hosted a workshop on Family Reunification. The workshop was facilitated by Andrew Conlan-Trant of Aspect One,  experts in the area of family reunification were also invited.

The purpose of the workshop was to identify potential issues that RIS could focus on in the area of family reunification. The workshop drew on the experience of people who interact with refugees and others with leave to remain who wish to reunite a family, after status has been granted in Ireland.

The RIS actively engages in advocacy, policy and research relevant to family reunification of refugees and has since produced two reports namely 'The Family Reunification Application Process for Refugees in Ireland' which was published in 2007 and more recently 'The Challenges facing Refugees, Beneficiary of Subsidiary Protection and person with Leave to Remain as they seek reunification with their families in Ireland'
